My Gratitude Blog

WHAT ARE YOUR FIVE THINGS OF YESTERDAY YOU CAN BE GRATEFUL FOR?

How to see the good beyond the bad April 13, 2010

Below there’s an excerpt from a letter of gratitude I received once by email. It was forwarded to me and I don’t know who is the author, but each time I read it, it inspires me to really see things to be grateful for, beyond what’s conventionally seen as a burden/ unpleasant/ irritating…

It is a lesson for us all to focus on the good things and be grateful for them. They are EVERYWHERE in and around us, in every happening, in every moment!

“I am grateful to:

My spouse who snores all night long,
For sleeping at home with me and not with someone else!
………………………………………….. ……………..
My teenage daughter who complains she has to wash the dishes,
Because that means she’s home and not on the streets.
………………………………………….. …………….
The taxes I pay,
Because this means I am employed.
………………………………………….. ………….
the dirt I have to clean after a party
Because this means I was surrounded by friends.
………………………………………….. ………………
My clothes which are a bit tight,
Because this means I have enough food.
………………………………………….. …………..
My shadow that accompanies me in my way to work
Because this means I am out in the sun.
………………………………………….. …………..
The floor that needs to be washed and the windows that needs to be wiped
Because this means I have a house.
………………………………………….. ………………………..
All the complaints about the government I hear,
Because this means we have the freedom of speech.
………………………………………….. ……………….
The parking spot I found right at the end of the parking lot,
Because this means I can walk and I was blessed to have a
transportation mean.
………………………………………….. …………………
The noise I have to stand hearing from the neighbors,
Because this means I can hear.
………………………………………….. …………………..
The pile of clothes waiting to be washed and ironed,
Because this means I have clothes to put on.
………………………………………….. …………..
The fatigue and muscle pain I feel at the end of the day,
Because this means I was able to work hard.
………………………………………….. ……………..
The alarm clock waking me up at dawn,
Because this means I am alive.
………………………………………….. ……..
And finally … for too many e-mails,
Because it means I have friends who think about me.”

Let’s grow this list! Write down here what other things/ general situations match this spirit, and they will be included on the list.
It will be the common work of gratitude-filled, positive people – what a thing to create!!
